Printers (All Systems)

General Notes:
The RFMS software is capable of generating a variety of printed reports and forms. Most of these items will print acceptably on either laser printers or dot-matrix printers. However, there are some exceptions.

Please note the following points:

  • MULTIFUNCTION PRINTERS ARE NOT SUPPORTED. Multifunction printers are printers that combine printing functions with features such as, built in scanning, faxing and copying.
  • When printing is desired via network printers and not local printers on every workstation, Windows Print Sharing is not Sufficient . When wanting to use Network printers a HP JetDirect or compatible print server will be required.
  • A dot-matrix printer is required to print Roll Tags or Item Tags from the RFMS Dos/Legacy System.
  • Some reports require a paper size greater than the standard 8Ѕx11 inches. If you intend to print these "wide-paper" reports on a dot-matrix printer, it must be capable of handling wide-carriage "greenbar" paper (14-7/8 inches x 11 inches). Alternatively, you may print these wide reports on Legal-size paper with a laser printer, if the laser printer meets the specifications outlined in the LASER PRINTERS section below.

Laser Printers:
RFMS recommends Hewlett-Packard laser printers in the LaserJet 4 series and later. Laser printers must be:
100% compatible with the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 4 series or later

  • Capable of PC-8 symbol-set support
  • Capable of condensing or scaling print to 19cpi or smaller
  • Capable of printing on Legal-size paper (8.5x14) as well as Letter-size paper (8.5x11)

Minimum Recommended:

  • Any HP laser printer in the LaserJet 4 series or later.

Inkjet Printers:
RFMS recommends Hewlett-Packard Inkjet Printers. Inkjet printers must be:

  • Capable of condensing or scaling print to 18cpi or smaller
  • Capable of printing on Legal-size paper (8.5x14) as well as Letter-size paper (8.5x11)
  • Must be parallel (USB Type Printers are not supported for use with RFMS Dos/Legacy System.)

  Minimum Recommended:

  • Any current HP Deskjet Series Printer that is parallel capable.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Many of the InkJet/BubbleJet/DeskJet-type printers are not completely compatible with DOS applications, and others are not DOS compatible at all. Results with these printers may vary. RFMS does not guarantee compatibility with Inkjet Printers while printing from the RFMS Dos/Legacy System.

Dot-Matrix Printers:
Note: RFMS Does not recommend the use of Dot-Matrix Printers with the RFMS for Windows Software. Certain reports may not print correctly on these printers.

RFMS recommends the Epson FX series of Dot-matrix printers. Dot-matrix printers must be:

  • Capable of IBM Proprinter emulation
  • Capable of printing at the true Top-of-Form position.
  • Capable of condensing print to 17cpi or smaller
  • Capable of handling wide-carriage "greenbar" paper (14-7/8 inches x 11 inches), if you intend to print "wide-paper" reports. See the GENERAL NOTES section above.

Minimum Recommended (for Legacy RFMS only):

  • Epson FX-1050 wide-carriage dot-matrix Printer (Recommended: Epson FX-1180 or later wide-carriage dot-matrix printer).
Vista Requirements
  • If you are running Vista and version 9 RFMS, you must have Pervasive 9 and the Vista Patch. Legacy RFMS doesn’t run on Vista even with the Patch from Pervasive.

  • If you are running Vista and RFMS, the help files have an issue. You must download the following .exe onto each RFMS workstation to view the help files.
  • Vista Patch Download from Microsoft
